The tummy tuck is probably one of the most proportion altering procedures that I perform in cosmetic plastic surgery. From pregnancy or weight loss, the abdomen loses its shape and proportion. Several changes occur, including
- Abdominal Muscle Malposition
- Excess Skin
- Loss of Skin Tone
- Stretch Marks
- Fat Deposits
- Belly Button Shape Change
A tummy tuck can tighten the tummy muscles, remove excess skin and sculpt excess fat deposits. A tummy tuck can even remove excess stretch marks and reshape the belly button. But a tummy tuck cannot do everything. It cannot remove fat deep to the abdominal muscles. Most importantly, a tummy tuck is not a replacement for good eating habits and exercise. It does go hand in hand with sensible eating habits and a workout routine.
Tummy Tuck After Pregnancy
The first set of before and after tummy tuck pictures is a patient from Virginia Beach. Plastic Surgery was an option for her. She was very active, but despite that she had a tummy bulge that she could not get rid of. She did not like the way she looked in clothes or bathing suits.
After her tummy tuck, she had a flatter abdomen, a shapelier waist line, and a better overall appearance.
This next patient had very little fat, but still complained about loose skin and a tummy bulge in form fitting clothes. Her before and after tummy tuck pictures show a flatter tummy, tighter skin, and a more defined waist line.
Tummy Tuck After Weight Loss
After losing weight, changes occur to the abdomen. Fat deposits can still remain, muscle position is altered, and excess skin is usually present. In Virginia beach, plastic surgery patients complain that they have put a great deal of effort into losing weight, but their shape remains the same. Many complain that their clothes don’t fit properly, they can’t even tuck in their shirt. Most patients who present for plastic surgery after weight loss feel frustrated that they have lost weight but still cannot have the shape they desire. Many patients after tummy tuck procedures continue to improve their shape because of their renewed self confidence.
Below is a picture of a patient who lost a considerable amount of weight. She still had a great deal of excess skin and little shape to her abdomen.
This weight loss patient under went an abdominoplasty consisting of laser liposuction to remove the excess fat, tightening of her tummy muscles, contouring of her waistline, and removal of the excess skin. She also underwent reshaping of her belly button (umbilicoplasty). After her tummy tuck she had a flatter more proportioned abdomen.
While a tummy tuck is not a replacement for weight loss, it can shape the abdomen so that a person will have overall better proportion.
